Local couple Pat and Adela Palomino were married this past July and received a generous cash wedding gift. They are members of the American Legion Post 86 in Overgaard who are generous supporters of our community. According to Adela, “Years ago I received help from a women’s shelter in Scottsdale and have ever since wanted to do something in return. Pat interjected, “When we received this gift we decided we wanted to ‘pay it forward’.”
The couple’s desire was the driving force behind a the fundraiser for White Mountain SAFE House located in Show Low, of which Adela was the chairperson. American Legion Post 86 members held a pot luck dinner with a $5 donation per person. The Legion cooked brats and burgers and provided the music for the event. Local businesses donated items that were raffled off. Including their gift they raised a total of $2,050 for the women’s shelter.
Receiving the check on behalf of the White Mountain SAFE House was Becky Shumway, the shelter manager and Kathleen McCormick who manages their thrift store next to Sonic in Show Low.
What a nice way to start off a marriage! Congratulations to Pat and Adela Palomino on your recent nuptials! Thank you for your generosity and to American Legion Post 86 and the community members who helped with the successful fundraiser for such a worthy cause.
