Holbrook, AZ – The Navajo County Board of Supervisors gave new life to a rarely used 2006 Chevrolet Suburban by approving the sale of the vehicle to the Rim Country Senior Center to aid in the organization’s meal delivery program. Included in the services provided is the “Meals on Wheels” program which delivers over 35 meals a day to members of the community who are unable to travel to the Senior Center.
“That center is one of the jewels of the community in Heber-Overgaard,” said Navajo County District IV Supervisor Steve Williams. “There’s a tremendous amount of volunteer hours that go into helping that center function, and it provides a wonderful service to the community.”
Delivering meals is a crucial service for the Senior Center, but the vehicle being used to support this service is no longer reliable and puts the program in jeopardy. However, the newly acquired Suburban will allow the Senior Center to continue its “Meals on Wheels” program through the harshest of weather conditions.
“The ‘Meals on Wheels’ program is needed in the community,” Supervisor Williams said. “This is a great solution to a challenge they had, and us selling the vehicle for $1 is a win-win.”
