John Conrad Merrell, 59, was able to open the door and threw the woman out of the car. When he tried to drive away though, the woman placed her hand in the door jamb and Merrell could not close the door but continued the assault by beating the woman in the head. Nearby drivers realized the attack and helped Merrell get detained. The mother, whose identity has not been disclosed, was hospitalized with broken and swollen hand.
