The powerful N.Y. Yankees or balanced Houston Astros? The New York Yankees despite injuries to major players throughout the season hit more homeruns than any other team in a season in history. They did this with Judge, Encarnacion, and Stanton have been disabled much of the season. The younger players that have been called up to replace such injured players, have performed beyond expectations. They have the best Closing Pitcher with Aroldis Chapman. Starting pitching – J. Paxton 15 – 6, D. German 18 – 4, M. Tanaka 11 – 9, and J. Happ 12 – 8. The lowest ERA is J. Paxton at 3.82 and the highest would be J. Happ 4.91.

The balanced Houston Astros led the Major League with 107 wins,(3 better than the Yankees). The Astros have six players batting .290 or better, two of them batting .313 and .311 and Altuve at .298 31hrs, Gurriel .298 31hrs. As for the Starting Pitching they have the best 1,2,3 punch in the American League. J. Verlander, G. Cole (figured to be 1 and 2 in Cy Young Award Voting) and in a late season trade with the Diamondbacks acquired Z. Grienke. Verlander 21 – 6 2.58, G. Cole 20 – 5 2.50 and Z. Grienke in only 10 starts with Houston 8 – 1 3.02. Verlander has one no-hitter and both Cole and Grienke flirted with no-hitters the latest being Grienke, lost it with one out in the ninth inning. The closer Osuna had a record of 4 – 3 2.63 38 saves.
This reporters’ choice is the HOUSTON ASTROS. I know the Yankees won 104 games, set MLB record for HR’s, but SP has not lived up to expectations. The Astros with the pick-up of Grienke have shut down all hitting the have faced including the Yankees. Besides who wouldn’t love to see – Verlander vs. Scherzer, Cole vs Strasburg, and Grienke vs Corbin. Could there be, better pitching match-ups scheduled than these.
