NCSO Sheriff’s Office arrest suspect for shooting horses.
On September 30, 2019 around 9:43AM, Navajo County Sheriff’s Deputies were dispatched to Forest Service Road 9890G, Pinedale, AZ refence two domestically owned horses being shot and killed.
On October 5th, The Sheriff’s Office received information in reference to several possible suspects that may have information about the shooting of the horses. Our Criminal Investigations Division took over the investigation and began interviewing the potential suspects. Upon completion of the interview, enough probable cause existed to arrest a 19-year-old male for shooting the horses.
On 10/11/2019 Ryland Haynes was located, arrested and booked into the Navajo County Jail.
Ryland Haynes was arrested and booked for the following criminal charges;
Disorderly conduct involving weapons.
Unlawful killing of livestock
Currently this criminal case is still under investigation with our Criminal Investigations Division.
More arrests may be pending. The Sheriff’s Office is currently sharing our information with the USFS to see if there are any investigative leads they may want to follow up with or share with their ongoing investigation.
Upon completion of our police reports and forensics, the Navajo County Attorney’s Office will review the case for additional charges and criminal prosecution.
Sheriff David Clouse stated: “The Sheriff’s Office has been working diligently on this case since we received information about the deceased horses. We are pleased a suspect was identified and arrested but we still have a lot of work to do. This was truly a senseless crime that needed to be resolved as soon as possible.”
