At the event each team was matched up in alliances with other teams. According to comments on Facebook by Coach Wayne Batson, “Our alliance won both matches in the Franklin Division semi-finals, so we advanced to the Division Finals. This makes our team 1 of 6 in our Division and 1 of 12 in the entire world!!!”

Unfortunately, their Alliance didn’t win the Division Finals, but still what an awesome 2015-16 season for these talented kids from our small community!

We would be remiss if we didn’t report the means by which this trip was funded. On Saturday April 9th the American Legion hosted a fund raiser with a car wash, food and an auction that raised $4,200. The team’s goal was set at $10,000 to afford the trip to St. Louis. The total amount raised by the Legion was $3,800 plus $400 from other faculty and other donations from the Legion.

With a generous donation of $3,000 from APS and $6,700 donated on the team’s Go-Fund-Me website they had no worries. The team left on April 25th with two days driving and faced three days of matches and semifinals.

Thanks to our American Legion for putting on this fund raiser. They always show such enthusiasm and put forth so much good energy, they just make it fun for all! So many nice items were donated for the auction from our community.

Per Coach Batson, “Many thanks to all of the sponsors, family member support, the Heber Overgaard USD, the School Board, Mentors, and Coaches. We couldn’t have done it without you.”

I would say Heber-Overgaard teachers and parents are doing a lot of things right wouldn’t you? We are so very proud of you and will be bragging on you for a long time.
