Abbie Andersen, 6th grader, has the distinction of being the first Million Word Reader at Capps Middle School. Abbie obviously loves reading and fantasy books are her favorite. Kids read books at their grade level. After passing a computer test, the word count is tallied. As of October 7th Abbie has read 1,199,912 words.
Each school’s librarian has reward incentives to encourage all levels of readers. Kids like Abbie find that encouragement inside themselves. Abbie knows that a good book can take her on an adventure anywhere she can imagine.
Encore Thrift Emporium’s main outreach is supporting the fine arts from choir, band, orchestra, Lego Robotics and the Mogollon’s Robotics Team. In addition, they realize how important reading well is to all the above activities. They provide the incentives and rewards to all three school campuses for Accelerated Reading. Million Word Readers are a part of AR and Abbie knows many more kids will be joining her during the year. She’s hoping she can read enough to win a top prize. No matter how much she reads this school year she knows it’s part of the secret to success. Congratulations Abbie!
