The Overgaard Ponderosa Lions meeting on March 21, 2018 held a surprise for long time Lion Donna Doss. When her husband Larry passed away in January, she requested donations go to Leader Dogs for the Blind in Rochester Hills, Michigan in lieu of flowers.

For her generosity in memory of her husband, Lion Donna received the Leader Dogs for the Blind Founders Tribute. In appreciation of her donations, she received a plaque in memory of her beloved Larry with a thank you letter from the person who received her Leader Dog. The Ponderosa Lions donated an additional $250 for a brick to be placed in the school’s campus patio that reads: Memory Larry Doss, Overgaard Lions Club, January 13, 2018. The total donation to the dog guide training school was $825.

Donna and Larry have put it countless hours of volunteer time as members of the Ponderosa Lions Club and she was very touched by this recognition.

Leader Dogs for the Blind, a dream by three Lions, S. A. Dodge Donald P. Schuur and Charles A. Nutting, was founded in 1939. It is one of the largest and finest dog guide schools in the world. To date, over 15,000 Leader Dogs have been provided to individuals from around the world who are blind and visually impaired.
