In November Kidde announced a massive recall on a couple types of their extinguishers, one with a plastic handle and the other with a push button.
Plastic handle fire extinguishers: Kidde.com states the recall involves 134 models of Kidde fire extinguishers manufactured between January 1, 1973 and August 15, 2017, including some models that were previously recalled in March 2009 and in February 2015.
Push-button fire extinguishers: The recall involves eight models of Kidde push-button fire extinguishers manufactured between August 11, 1995 and September 22, 2017. The no-gauge push-button extinguishers were sold in red and white, and with a red or black nozzle. These models were sold primarily for kitchen and personal watercraft applications.
There have been injuries and one death reported because of the faulty design so it is important to check to see if yours is on the list. Kidde’s remedy is to replace faulty units at no charge.
