HEBER-OVERGAARD, AZ—On Saturday June 17th, 2017, local Mogollon Junior High School student, Erica Lee Armstrong, entered her first beauty pageant and won her age division with high points overall for the title of Junior Miss Arizona 4th of July held in Phoenix, Arizona. Erica Lee, who’s 13 years old, has competed in competitive cheer leading since age 6, but after a foot injury was looking to find something where she could still be competitive and not have further injury. She did online research and found a pageant which is described as a “Natural Beauty Pageant” where the contestants compete with minimal make up and leave the fake tans, nails, eyelashes, etc. out.
For her talent she sang “Lost Boy” from Peter Pan, written by Ruth B. with accompaniment by her sister, Mariah, on the guitar. Her outfit was something that you’d wear to a July 4th Parade.
She was awarded a Title Sash and Crown and will be asked but not required, to make appearances and volunteer around the Valley/State.
“This pageant was really a wonderful experience,” explained Mrs. Andronica Armstrong. “We were kept well informed during the process and it was a really exciting to see all the support for all the contestants. We were thrilled for Erica Lee when they called her name!”
The event was held at Rock Steady Boxing Phoenix where Parkinson’s patients are taught boxing for exercise. A portion of the entry fees went toward scholarships to allow more individuals to come use the gym.
Congratulation Erica Lee! Hope you enjoy your year as Junior Miss Arizona 4th of July!
