Women of Heber/Overgaard met at the First So. Baptist Church of Overgaard to make this simple dress. The sewing work days on Sat. Oct. 17th and Nov. 14th produced 52 dresses ready for delivery. Some dresses had been made previously at home while others were cut and sewn that day. A pocket is added on the dress and a pair of panties (seat covers) slipped into the pocket.
Many ladies of Heber/Overgaard have either made dresses, donated panties, fabric, sewing notions or have helped pack and mark the dresses in ziploc bags ready for delivery. The 52 dresses plus a donation of $80 will go out with our first delivery.
Thank you ladies: Shannon, Jann, Carol, Nancy, Janet, Debbie, Penny, Carolyn, Dottie, Jean N, Jean P, Sharon S, Sharon W, Suzie, Michaele, Gayle, Teresa, Tilly, Donna, Vienna and Toby.
By providing a new dress you may be changing a young girl’s destiny. Village pastors tells us that a girl wearing a dress presents an appearance that she is well cared for and may discourage would-be predators. A “Dress A Girl” label on the outside of each dress sends an additional message that each girl is under the care of an organization giving her added protection from those who would harm her.
“Dress A Girl Around the World” is a campaign under “Hope 4 Women International” bringing dignity to women around the world since 2006. “Hope 4 Women International” is a nondenominational, independent Christian organization.
We use a sewing handbook which includes quidelines, pattern and a tutorial for sewing these cute dresses. The next sewing work day is scheduled for January 9th from 10 am to noon, as we are not meeting in December. Call Carolyn for more information at 928-535-3380.
Be a blessing to a little girl and show God’s love by sewing one of these dresses. Come join us!
