Breaking: The owner of the Arizona Cardinals, Bill Bidwill, has passed away today at the age of 88 years old. The cause of death has not been released, but he died at home with his family. Bidwill has been the sole owner of the Arizona Cardinals since 1972.
Bill Bidwill Sr. was born in Chicago, IL in 1931. In 1932 Bill’s father, Charles Bidwill, purchased the Cardinals (at that time they were the Chicago Cardinals). At the time of his death, he was the longest tenured team owner in NFL history.
The president of the Arizona Cardinals and Bill’s son, Michael Bidwill, said today in a statement: “Our dad passed away today the same way he lived his life: peacefully, with grace, with dignity and surrounded by family members and loved ones.”.
Bill Bidwill had turned over day-to-day operations of the Arizona Cardinals to two of his sons, Bill Jr and Michael. They will resume running the team. The Arizona Cardinals and the NFL as a whole will feel the loss of Bill Bidwill Sr. for a long time to come.
