IS THE ARIZONA CARDINALS SEASON ALREADY OVER JUST THREE WEEKS INTO THE SEASON (RECORD 0 -2- 1) ?
In a season in which you have a rookie QB with a rookie coach one would expect the defense to live over expectations to have a chance to be successful, surprisingly enough the offense hasn’t been to, bad, on the other side of the ball the defense “Can’t stop anybody”. The defensive rankings are consistent, problem is consistent at the bottom of the NFL. 29th – yards allowed, 29th – points allowed, 29th vs. the run, jump up vs the pass at 23rd. Kingsbury brought his wide open offense from Texas Tech to the NFL, but along with it he also brought the defense with a bunch of holes in it (The Red Raiders were also known for). Last season the offense is what everyone complained about, now with an improved offense that can drive the ball up the field, the defense can’t stop being driven off the field.
The Arizona Diamondbacks defeated the St. Louis Cardinals 3 – 2 in a game that lasted 19 innings, 6 hours 53 minutes. It was the longest game in Chase Field history by time and by innings. The hero of the game was Ildemaro Vargas, with a single with bases loaded in the bottom of the 19th. Cardinals pitcher Jack Flaherty pitched no-hit ball through six innings. Andrew Miller couldn’t hold the 1 – 0 lead in the ninth in which the Dbacks tied it 1 – 1 withi Ildermo Vargas solo HR. The Cards took a one run lead in the 13th and yet to see the D-Backs tie it once again. The game ended at 1:34 a.m. and featured 24 pitchers and 48 strikeouts, and the Diamondbacks used a franchise record 30 players. By games end the Chase Field crowd had already left.
